McDonald’s Brings Back the McRib: The Fan-Favorite Sandwich Returns

Good news for McRib fans: the cult-favorite sandwich is officially making its comeback. McDonald’s has confirmed the McRib returns to select U.S. restaurants starting Tuesday, October 27, kicking off another limited run of one of fast food’s most talked-about menu items.

When and Where to Find It

McDonald’s senior marketing director Guillaume Huin announced the news on X, saying the McRib would be back as early as October 27 at select restaurants across the country. This year’s rollout begins in key cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Dallas, with more locations expected to be added. Local restaurants in Indiana, Michigan and the Pittsburgh area have also announced its return. Since it won’t be available everywhere at first, the easiest way to check is the McDonald’s app or a quick call to your nearest location.

What’s on the Sandwich

The McRib is sticking with the formula fans know and love: a boneless pork patty shaped to look like a rack of ribs, smothered in tangy barbecue sauce and topped with slivered onions and dill pickles on a toasted hoagie-style roll. There’s no word on any recipe changes this year, which is likely exactly what loyal fans want to hear.

A Sandwich Born From a Nugget Shortage

The McRib has an unusual origin story. According to Huin, the sandwich was first created because Chicken McNuggets had become so popular that supply couldn’t keep up. McDonald’s needed a new item with a different protein to buy time, and the McRib was born. Decades later, its on-again, off-again availability has turned it into something of a legend, with fans tracking sightings and celebrating every return.

A Comeback With a Twist

This year’s return comes with a bit of controversy. It’s the McRib’s first major comeback since a federal class action lawsuit filed in December 2025 claimed the sandwich contains no actual rib meat. McDonald’s disputes the claim and maintains the McRib is made with 100% boneless pork. The case is still pending, but it doesn’t seem to have dampened excitement among fans.

Don’t Wait Too Long

McDonald’s hasn’t announced an end date, but the McRib typically sticks around for only three to four weeks before disappearing again. If you’ve been craving one, now is the time to grab it, because once it’s gone, there’s no telling exactly when it will be back.
